Incard, Samsung and Movenda Inaugurates Next-Generation Mobile-Phone Web Services for Telecom Italia
'Smart Card Web Server' Technology on SIM Cards Enables Telecom Italia to Deliver Enhanced Web-Based Services on Mobile Handsets
BARCELONA, Spain, Mobile World Congress 2009, Feb. 17 /
Working in cooperation with Samsung Electronics, one the world's largest mobile phone makers, Movenda, a leading mobile-services OTA (Over-The-Air) platform provider, and Incard, via the Smart-Card Web-Server technology available on Incard's 'Phoenyx' SIM card, are enabling Telecom Italia to deploy new and unique Web-like services that offer attractive and user-friendly interfaces, significantly enhancing the mobile handset experience.
A joint solution develope by Incard, Samsung and Movenda will enable Telecom Italia, one of the world's major telecom network operators, to roll out new services for its mobile handset subscribers, employing Smart-Card Web-Server(SCWS) technology. Smart-Card Web-Server technology revolutionizes the way
that mobile network operator services can be offered and presented using
user-familiar Web browser technology. The Web server implemented on a mobile
phone SIM card enables users to view SIM content and applications in much the
same way they would view Web pages via a typical internet browser.
SCWS, which is a standard defined by the OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) and ETSI
(European Telecommunications Standards Institute), will enable operators to
breathe new life into their services, including: availability on the SIM card
of the operator Web portal; address book management; multimedia services;
remote administration of SIM Web contents by the operator; secure management
of information; enhanced technical support; and mobile advertising.
Telecom Italia has been at the forefront of developing SIM-based services and
is now the world's first operator to launch Web-server based services on a
significant scale. Telecom Italia's migration plan, from the existing
text-only 'SIM toolkit' of operator value-added services to the
next-generation Web server application environment, will significantly enhance
its potential to increase subscriber revenues through a myriad of new and
exciting services that were just not possible with the industry's current SIM
toolkit.
The companies that will fully support the Telecom Italia migration are:
- Incard, a leader in smart cards for the mobile telecoms industry,
which
enables the Smart-Card Web-Server technology via its 'Phoenyx'
SIM card;
- Samsung Electronics, one the world's largest mobile phone makers,
which is making SCWS technology widely available in its handset
portfolio;
- Movenda, leader in remote management platforms, which is extending its
Over-The-Air USIM management solution's family by offering its
Movenda SCWS platform, which provides Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)
with a powerful Over-The-Air administration platform to handle and
enhance Value Added Services, based on the Smart-Card Web-Server
technology.
"The selection by Telecom Italia of the Phoenyx Smart-Card Web Server solution
is a highly significant endorsement of Incard's world-class capabilities,"
said Michele Scarlatella, Vice-President of Marketing at Incard. "The
deployment of next-generation SCWS technology on a large scale is a key
milestone in the transformation of mobile services for users and network
operators and brings major opportunities for the further development of the
mobile market."
"Here at Samsung we truly believe that advanced technologies need to enable
services that are easy to use," said Amedeo D'angelo, Vice President of the
Telecommunication Network division at Samsung Electronics Italia. "Together
with our partners, we have opened a new era in user interaction with the
mobile phone and SIM card. We believe that Smart Card Web Server technology
will create great excitement for the users of our mobile phones and the
services from Telecom Italia."
"The Movenda SCWS management platform is the natural evolution of our long
experience in the development of innovative remote management platforms," said
Marco Rossi, President and CEO of Movenda. "Our leading platform allows the
remote configuration and management of a web portal resident on a USIM card
and I'm confident it will help to accelerate the growth of this innovative
business area."
